Valerie Simonsemail: Valerie Simons

Valerie is a long time Port Moody resident who has turned her love of photography into an inspiration for the painted image. The natural world is her muse -- a wonderland, sometimes tranquil, sometimes bold and brash, always laden with incredible beauty. Starting with a photograph, she sees the image with an artist’s perspective, transforming that image into an artistic rendering of feelings remembered long after the physical location is left behind.

Born and raised in the lower mainland, most of her works are extracted from images of the Pacific Northwest.  Some are remembrances of her travels, but they are all scenes she has encountered during her wanderings. Valerie’s technique has developed through private study and experimentation with mediums, tools and manipulations.   She works primarily in acrylics, but imbeds elements of other media in some works to achieve the best representation of her memory of time and place.

Her works are finding an ever-broadening audience, and are currently found in collections in Canada and England.
